There are so many of us cake poppers that interact regularly on social media, but to my knowledge, there’s never been an official get together. I knew I couldn’t be the only one wanting to put some faces to these names I’ve been friends with for so long.

In early July, I put this pictureΒ on Instagram, the original idea starting out as a NJ Cake Poppers Meet-Up. I didn’t post anything on Facebook or le’ blog for fear of it getting too big, too fast. I wanted to do a small event for “practice”, to see what kind of interest level there was for this type of thing.

Well… there was interest! πŸ™‚ We had bakers from 7 states attend –Β New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Massachusetts, Virginia & West Virginia –Β hence the name change of the event.

On Saturday, August 17, we all got together at The Downtown in Red Bank, NJ, and it was so much fun. Like most good things, the afternoon flew by way too fast, but I’ll do my best to re-cap.

Since people were travelling such long distances, I wanted to surprise them with Swag Bags containing baking goodies. CandiQuik (Log House Foods) was so generous to donate the tote bags; more on the specific bag items at the end of this post.

The Downtown created some amazing food. For appetizers, we had platters of chips & guac, hummus & pita bread, fruit & cheese and crudite with dip. For lunch, there were four different types of sliders, French fries, and these mac & cheese pops…Β notice my cake pop nail art?Β

Mac and Cheese Pops

I had to laugh, because all of the bakers were dipping the sticks in the melted cheese first, then into the mac & cheese bite… old habits die hard, haha.

Monique, from Unique Sweets & Treats, brought these delicious red velvet & vanilla cupcakes for everyone.

Monique’s friend, Jenae Creates, designed these beautiful custom tags for the packaging – aren’t they amazing?

After an hour of food and socializing, we gathered together for a discussion panel, featuring Karyn (Pint Sized Baker), Melanie (Lil Cutie Pops), Dee (Diva’s Delights), Rebecca (Rebecca’s Cake Pops) & myself (KC Bakes).

Photography Discussion

Karyn led an excellent talk on Photography Tips & Tricks and I led a chat about Social Media Best Practices. Each panel member had valuable information to contribute to both topics. Afterwards, we had an open discussion with questions from the attendees on everything from “Is it worth it to have your own .com?” to “How do you price your cake pops?”

Before raffling off prizes, we gathered for a group picture… so much talent all in one room! For lots of candid pictures, see the very end of this post, and search #NECPMU on Instagram.

After all of the raffle excitement, we wrapped up the afternoon by walking a few blocks over to Melanie’s cake pop shop, Lil Cutie Pops (view pics of my last visit there). Melanie was so gracious to show everyone the entire store – from kitchen to showroom – and answer all of the bakers questions.Β
