When & how did you become a cake pop maker?
About a year ago we went to a Birthday party that had plain round pops. We had never seen them before but liked the idea so when we got home we looked them up and found Bakerella’s page. We thought it would be an awesome idea for Teresa’s boy’s Birthday which was coming up so we tried it out. We had a few mishaps but we liked making them. After that we wanted to try again so we made some more and we took them to work with us. They sold out in minutes. And that’s history; we have been making them nonstop ever since!
Do you bake as your full-time job?
Teresa: I am a School Bus driver for Special Education students full time, so I pop whenever I am off work or usually in the evenings. Naghina: I was also a School bus driver but now am baking full time and love it!
How did you come up with your business name?
We decided on Kreative Pastries because we do other things as well as cake pops and a pastry can be anything delectable including but not limited to just cake pops.
What inspires you in your baking; how do you come up with original ideas?
Many things. From seeing patterns on ribbons, to seeing an interesting picture. We can walk through a store and spark an idea for a pop. That is the awesome thing about cake pops, they can be whatever you want them to be and you are only limited by your imagination. Sometimes a client will give us an idea and then we put our own spin on it. In our case, two heads are better than one!
What are some of your favorite cake pops that you have made?
What advice do you have for other cake pop makers?
Try any and everything. If someone wants something and you are not sure you can do it, try anyway. Many times we have taken an order and not had a clue how to execute it, but finally figure something out. Also don’t be afraid to ask other poppers questions. Most are nice and very friendly and don’t mind sharing how they made certain things. We have lots of cake pop friends who share ideas.
Do you make anything else in addition to cake pops?
Chocolate covered Oreos, chocolate covered pretzels, chocolate covered twinkies, chocolate dipped Rice Krispy Treats, chocolate dipped strawberries, fruit bouquets, caramel apples, caramels, Brittle, Hard suckers and Cupcakes
